About Burgos

Burgos is a city of historical landmarks. The town is located in northern Spain, on the junction of the Arlanzón river tributaries. It’s one of the few cities in the world that can proudly claim that it has a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city is extremely well connected with the rest of the nation via train, bus, plane and road. In order to see the important historical monuments in the city, you can either avail a taxi or take buses to save some money and spend the saved cash by staying in one of the luxurious hotels in Burgos. International cheap flights to Burgos land at the Burgos-Villafria airport, via Barcelona. From the airport, both buses and taxis are available.

The prime attraction of the city is the Burgos Cathedral. It has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In the Chapter house and open chapels of the cathedral, a museum is located. While visiting this World Heritage Cathedral, you should also see the museum as there are several interesting items on display. Paintings, metalwork, sculptures and many more items in the museum take you to the past easily.

The next church you should visit is San Lesmes Church. It houses the remains of Saint San Lesmes. The Church was originally built in 15th century, but in 16th century, it was redecorated to adapt to the architectural style of that era.

San Nicolas Church is a Gothic style church and the most famous object here is the “High Reredos”. It is a sculpture made by a merchant who wanted to imperialize his power and wealth. The sculpture depicts the miracles performed by San Nicolás.

After visiting these two churches, go to the Monastery of Santa Maria Real De Las Huelgas. The entire complex has church, monastery and enclosed premises for nuns. It was founded by Alfonso VIII and his wife Leonor, as a Royal Pantheon.

Your final destination should be Hospital Del Rey University Building. It was founded by Alfonso VIII more than 800 years ago to attend to the pilgrims. The architecture of the building is a true testament of elegance and royalty.

Find the aforementioned landmarks interesting? Then pack your bags, book tickets in cheap flights to Burgos and witness these architectural wonders in person.
