About Braila

Br?ila, a port on the river Danube is situated in Muntenia in eastern Romanial; an ancient town, it dates back to 1325. In the course of the 19th century, the town assumed greater importance by becoming one of the three principal ports on Danube and was responsible for most of Romania’s exports. The present-day city attracts a lot of tourists coming in on cheap flights to Br?ila with its beautiful historic buildings, churches and monuments, the lovely Danube River, the Macin Mountain vistas and vast vineyards in the surrounding areas.

Visitors arriving by the cheap flights to Br?ila will be immediately struck by the layout of the town; the streets that radiate from the port towards the city centre are crossed periodically by concentric streets; the street plan follows a geometric design that was typical of ancient Ottoman fortifications. At the city centre are some beautiful 19th century buildings, among which are a number of places of worship such as the 1865 Greek Church, the Sfin?ii Arhangheli Church and the the Sfântul Nicolae Church. A number of cultural institutions in the city centre are also big tourist draws; the Maria Filotti theatre is a hub of regional theater while the History Museum displays the immense heritage of the region. The Palace of Culture contains an art museum that can be enthralling to art-lovers. At the old Water Tower, you can enjoy a leisurely meal at the roof-top restaurant enjoying the slowly-rotating panorama of the surrounds as the restaurant spins one full circle in one hour.

The Public Garden above the Danube bank affords a lovely view over the river right across to the M?cin Mountains that beckon you to visit the lovely but rugged stretches of the oldest Romanian mountain range. You can also enjoy a ride on the 19th century electrical tramlines for a trip into nostalgia. Visit the nearby town of Niculitel and take in a tour of its famous vineyards, and a 370 AD-built Christian basilica discovered in 1971. The Danube delta with its unique vegetation and topography is home to varied wildlife that provides a good excuse to stay back on any of the comfortable hotels in Br?ila.
