Bârlad, situated on the banks of the Bârlad River, is an ancient town in the Vaslui County. The 14th century Molddavian princes used to reside in this town; the ruins can still be viewed and are an important tourist attraction today. Due to the many cheap flights to Bârlad, the city has emerged as an important tourist destination in Romania.
The 17th century Royal Church has since been restored and rebuilt a number of times. Currently, the imposing structure serves to house the Vasile Pârvan Museum, named so after the celebrated Romanian archaeologist. The museum has a diverse collection of exhibits that range from folk art to the region’s many famous denizens. The museum is broadly divided into four sections; Archaeology-History, Natural Sciences, Art and Personalities.
Nature lovers will really appreciate the sprawling Public Gardens; strolling on the forest paths within that are lined with tall oak and maple trees gives visitors the feeling of walking in a dense forest miles away from the city. The Public Garden also houses the town’s zoo that will be much loved by children who are sure to revel in the company of animals from various parts of the world. Bârlad is known for being the city of flowers; there are lovely blooming gardens and flowerpots all over the place. Put up at one of the hotels in Bârlad and enjoy the relaxing ambiance of this lovely town. Virtually everywhere, you will encounter branches of the town’s most celebrated flower shop that goes by the name of Trandafirul (The Rose).
