Awsim is a city located in the region of Al Jizah, Egypt. Cairo West Airport serves airlines with cheap flights to Awsim as well as Cairo International Airport. The city also has a roundabout located in the entrance of the city circled by rows of small buildings and shops. Awsim is near the Garden City , a high end residential area in Cairo contrasting the rural character of Awsim.
Being part of the Giza, Awsim serves as a good stop over before heading to Giza Necropolis which is an ancient Pyramids complex. The city offers a refreshing view of the countryside. A walking or driving tour around the city would allow tourists to enjoy Egyptian countryside cuisine. There are several small local eateries located near the city roundabout. Don't be surprised if you will be offered of food that is basically of vegetarian blend. One of these is Koshen, a staple food of the Egyptian peasants. It is a cheap way to fill a hungry stomach while in any Egyptian city or town like Awsim. In Awsim, restaurants usually have minimal options. Most of the time, you'll find just three options. Rice pudding is the typical desert in Awsim restaurants.
There are no big and luxury hotels in Awsim but small lodges or budget hotels for a typical travelers on a shoestring. But you can be sure that you'll get clean rooms and air-conditioned room with bath water.
Awsim (also spelled Ausim) has a small ancient site in Khem village. It was believed to be the site of an ancient temple dedicated to Egypt ancient god Khenty irthy and was once a capital city of the ancient Lower Egypt. Ancient remains found here bear the names of Psammetichus, Necho II, Nectanebo and those from 30th dynasties. Ancient Greeks on the other hand called this ancient town as Letopolis.
Although there are no direct cheap flights to Awsim and all flights are directed to Cairo, Awsim is connected to Cairo with good road networks. The public bus or micro buses are the cheapest means in getting in and around the city.
Awsim is a modern city and its minor ancient temples may not be as impressive as those in other Egypt’s ancient sites, and even with no direct flights to Awsim, the city’s antiquity still merits special attention from Egypt’s travelers.
