Amstelveen situated in the province of North Holland is actually an extension of Amsterdam’s metropolitan area and is named after the Amstel River that played a vital role in linking the city with the rest of the country. From its unassuming birth, it has grown into a vibrant city pulsating with opportunities for entertainment, recreation, shopping and culture. No town in Holland is bereft of art and culture and Amsteveen is no exception; be prepared to be charmed by the displays of modern art at The Cobra Museum voor Moderne Kunst that has marvellous pieces by Dutch, Danish, and Belgian artists who introduced modern art to the country. The Museum van der Togt will also enthral with its exceptional collection of artifacts of glass. If you want to be moved by your heritage experience further, take a ride to Amsterdam and back on the heritage tram, known as the Electrische Museumtramlijn.
You can get an extremely varied cultural experience in Amstelveen; on offer is an eclectic selection of theatre, concerts, ballet, cabaret and film shows on one hand and live music at P60, the most popular venue, on the other. There are a number of hotels in Amstelveen to accommodate tourists; however, the number of rooms is fairly limited.
