Alcorcón is a city in Spain, located 13 km away from Madrid. It’s a small city and mostly famous for its football club AD Alcorcón. The team had even defeated the mighty FC Barcelona 4-0 in a Copa Del Rey match in 2009. There are some interesting landmarks in the city and it should not take more than a day to cover them. Since it is close to Madrid, you can visit it to take a break from the hustle-bustle of the capital. There is no airport at Alcorcón but the city is well connected by bus, train and highway. Start your sightseeing tour by going to the Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo. It’s the home ground of AD Alcorcón. Your next destination should be the Glass Art Museum. This is a unique museum as all the things on displays are made of glass by famous artists from all over the world. Near the glass museum is Castles Valderas, one of the forts where General Franco stayed during the Spanish Civil War. There are two forts in Castles Valderas and one of them now houses the MAVA and the other is used as a municipal library. However, if you are a lover of architecture, Castles Valderas will disappoint you as the architectural style is not impressive.
After reaching the city via cheap flights to Alcorcón and seeing the castles, go to the Church of Santa María la Blanca. It’s a heritage site, declared so by the Spanish government and not UNESCO, and some people say that the church is on the site of a medieval mosque. However, the existing structure shows no visual resemblance and archaeology experts say that it’s not older than 16th century. The last notable place in the city is Buero Vallejo Cultural Center and the fountain located at the same site. The cultural center has four exhibition halls and two libraries with a seating capacity for 903 spectators. The fountain adds beauty to the Buero Vallejo Cultural Center.
