Coming in from Tokyo, you can take any domestic flight serving Akita airport. From the airport, a 40 minute bus ride connects to Akita Station. The bus ticket is sold at Y980. It hosts the Kanto Festival held from August 3 to August 6. The highlight of this festival is the display of balancing prowess of men carrying kanto or long bamboo poles with 20 or more paper lanterns attached at both ends.
