Ahmedabad is a city in Ahmedabad district and dubbed as the "Manchester of the east. It is popular by being the home of Mahtama Gandhi's Ashram. It was categorized as a commercial capital of Gujarat.

Ahmedabad financial district is enclosed by gate called darwajas. The city is said to have 21 darwajas and each of them have carvings and calligraphies dating from ancient Hindi periods. Amazingly some of these darwajas have balconies made of mudstones. These darjawas or gates are used as point of entry and exit within the city, and also to other parts of India.
