Aarschot is a beautiful city and municipality situated in Flemish Brabant, a famous province in Flanders, one of the three Belgian regions. The Tower of the Church of Our Lady looms large over the city. It is a significant 12th century Gothic-style monument made mainly of iron sandstone extracted from the Demer region. Hertogensmolens is an ancient but unique Flemish water-mill. It was constructed by Lord of Aarschot, Willem of Croÿ in 1505. After eight long years of tremendous planning and preparation, this significant industrial monument of Flanders was ultimately revived and given the status of a brasserie-hotel. Canterij is a remarkable castle constructed between the Church of Our Lady and the convent, by the then mayor Coomans Brachene. Aurelianustoren is supposed to be the perfect place for viewing the remnants of the historic city walls. The medieval Sint Rochus tower is located at the market and is made of iron sandstone. This historic tower was used as a prison and torture chamber and presently houses the police station. A visit to the Aarschot Museum could be pretty interesting as it has a plethora of invaluable exhibits that tell us about the rich history of the land and highlights the folklore.
